Premium Camping Chair Comparison - Get ready for summer

A folding camp chair should be simple: you unfold it, sit back, and crack a cold drink. But when prices range from $55 to $115, the actual trade-off comes down to frame strength, seat padding, and how much weight you want to carry. The OZtrail Spartan leads the price tag at $115, but backs it up with a 300kg rating and adjustable lumbar support. Meanwhile, Kmart's King Camp Chair costs $55—52.2% cheaper than the Spartan—yet leaves key durability specifications unstated.

The $89 Sweet Spot vs. The $115 Fortress

If you want maximum comfort without carrying an unnecessarily heavy chair, the $89 OZtrail Atlas makes a strong opening argument. It costs 22.6% less than the $115 OZtrail Spartan while delivering a serious 220kg weight capacity, fully padded seat and backrest, an integrated cooler arm, and dedicated holders for both cups and wine glasses. Crucially, at 5kg, it stays easy to carry from boot to campsite.

The $115 OZtrail Spartan justifies its $26 price jump for anyone needing extra frame stability or a wider seating area. It increases the weight limit to 300kg with 22mm steel cross bracing and front vertical stabilised legs. It also adds built-in adjustable lumbar support and a mesh headrest, though the trade-off is a bulkier 7.5kg weight on your shoulder.

Where Wanderer Sits in the Middle

At $99.99, the Wanderer Premium Cooler Arm Chair Odyssey costs 13.1% less than the OZtrail Spartan but $10.99 more than the OZtrail Atlas. It provides a 120kg weight capacity, padded seating, a built-in insulated cooler bag, an armrest storage pouch, and a magazine pocket.

While a 120kg capacity handles everyday use, it sits well behind the 220kg and 300kg ratings of its OZtrail competitors. Wanderer's strongest advantage is post-purchase support: BCF provides a 5-year warranty for club members alongside its standard 12-month cover.

The $55 Bargain Reality

Kmart's King Camp Chair is the cheapest option here at $55, making it 38.2% cheaper than the OZtrail Atlas and 45.0% cheaper than the Wanderer Odyssey. For quick picnics or backyard get-togethers, saving $34 to $45.00 upfront is tempting.

However, the budget model omits critical construction details, including weight capacity ratings, steel tube thickness, and structural padding. If you plan on sitting around a campfire for long afternoons or need guaranteed frame strength, skipping the extra padding and rated steel frame is a gamble.
