Usually, choosing a top-loading washing machine is a reliable way to save money. Here, the script is flipped. The Whirlpool 9kg top loader is the most expensive machine on the list at $992, while the front-loading Esatto comes in at just $599. The real dilemma is whether the mid-priced Samsung front loader hits the perfect sweet spot between basic washing and high-tech features.

Smart features for a modest premium

Both the Esatto and Samsung are 9kg front-loading washing machines finished in black. The Esatto is a straightforward proposition at $599.

The Samsung costs $120 more, but brings SmartThings AI into the mix. If you like the idea of app connectivity and smarter wash cycles, that 16.7% price bump is a reasonable upgrade. If you just want to press start and walk away, the Esatto keeps the cash in your pocket.

Paying extra to avoid bending down

The Whirlpool takes a different approach as a grey top loader. Top loaders are great if you want to avoid bending down to load the drum.

However, at $992, you are paying a steep price for those ergonomics. It costs $273 more than the smart Samsung and a massive $393 more than the basic Esatto.

Verdict

The Samsung is the smartest place to put your money. For $719, you get a 9kg front loader with modern smart features without breaking the bank. Choose the Esatto if your budget is strictly capped at $600. The Whirlpool only makes sense if you absolutely must have a top loader and are willing to pay a heavy premium for it.
